The Concept

Your search for something different can stop here, Wedding Cellars offers something that can be shared in equal amounts by every couple it also carries equal amounts of enjoyment, it’s something to which you can add as time passes, it’s a gift from your wedding day that can be enjoyed (and enhanced) in thirty even forty years time, it is a gift from your friends and family that can be enjoyed with or without their company.

Todays demographics summise that young couples already care about what they are eating and drinking. They are likely to have visited one of Australia’s wine districts, taken in some tastings and many have begun an appreciation for good wine. But when it comes to putting a wine cellar together we stumble as it is difficult to gain critical mass it is the most difficult part.

coupleconcept.jpgWe all know that the 12 or so bottles stashed under the bed or in the built-in robe is constantly under threat come 10.30pm and you’ve got half a bottle of Sauv Blanc to share between 10 guests "what the hell ..they are your bridal party" you think to yourself. Like your brain, the next morning your stash is severely dehydrated.

Fast forward 10 years, friends get together for a meal, the kids are finally in bed its time to relax. You produce the Hunter Semillon you have stored via Wedding Cellars at Wine-Ark the best man purchased it for your cellar you still have 3 left, you also choose a Barossa shiraz, one of the Brides maids chose it off the list you still have 8 left. The wines are drinking really well, thanks to perfect conditions in which it's been stored they’ve improved with age. You’re approaching the last half of a bottle senario but instead of having to raid the special reserves your maturing cellar allows you the luxury of grabbing a drink now wine, you’re all losing your palate and to spoil a good bottle now would be pointless.

The special thing about wine is that you can enjoy it for decades to come. Wedding Cellars staff will help guide you through the planning of a cellar, we encourage balance. With balance will come an effective pricing schedule as not everyone will be able to afford half a dozen ‘Hill of Grace’ or ‘Grange’ and there is great cellaring wine from $15. We are here to help you get that balance. Balance also means getting a cellar that has wine for now and wine for the future.

How it works

corkscrewsml.jpgBridal registries are common place. They allow for you and your guest to hand pick gifts that are wanted and useful. Wedding Cellars Bridal Wine Registry works along these principles.

Firstly the couple compile a dream list of the wines with which to stock the cellar. Alternatively our consultant can provide an initial draft based on some of your prefered tastes and objectives.  The choices made will be placed on your own individual website (see example) and go live. There is a need for some communication via a face to face meeting, email or the phone when deciding on your cellar list. See Putting it Together

Once the cellar list is agreed it will be posted onto your website and you will be supplied with Wedding Cellars Bridal Wine Registry cards that are sent with your invitation to your guests. The cards have a direct link to your website that houses the cellar selection. Your guests simply log on and purchase via credit card and the list will be automatically updated avoiding duplication.

We also offer to log the wines in a leather bound folder embosed with the couples required details. The Cellar Log which includes details such as, who supplied the wine, best drinking guidelines, tasting notes, vineyard details, and an area for the couple to make there own notes. This Log also comes supplied with USB key so couples have a digital version of their wines wedding wines.

The wines will be collated over a few weeks and delivered at an agreed time and place after you’ve returned from your Honeymoon. All payments are payable via credit card and as we run a live site once the payment has been accepted the list will automatically exclude the purchased item from the list. Wedding Cellars in conjunction with Wine-Ark also provide a cellaring service so that your newly purchased wines can be delivered directly to these state of the art cellars giving your wine the best chance of aging gracefully and allowing for its potential to be reached.

Putting it Together

Think about balance.

Trying to stock a cellar full of Icon wines is counterproductive. All wines are made to a degree of complexity and having a cellar that is stocked full of wine that are made to be drunk in ten, twenty or even thirty years’ time has limited balance. Look for some wines for now some for 3-5 years and some for long term cellaring.

Think Variety.

We also recommend diversity of choice as your palate will change over time. You may love the spritely liveliness of Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough now but in five years time you may appreciate aged Rieslings from the Clare Valley but have none maturing in your cellar. Establishing a collection through Wedding Cellars provides the idea opportunity to diversify into a broad range of varieties and styles.

Think quantity

We recommend that you choose batches of between 6 –18 bottles per wine so you can discover that at three years a wine is totally different to a 7 year wine which again will change when fully matured at 15 years of age. You can’t experience the transformation with a bottle, you need to sample as you go.

Thinking about storage ?

Careful cellaring is highly recommended, we recommend Wine-Ark who offer reduced prices to customers introduced via Wedding Cellars. Please speak to our consultants with regards to this service. You'll be happy you did when your wine has been given the best chance of showing off all of it's potential. We are happy to deliver directly to the national facilities of this organisation (free Sydney Melbourne Brisbane).
